So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Genesis 1:27

Lord Almighty,

You created human beings in Your own image, and You made male and female each with a unique design and function. In recent years we have seen a bizarre rise in the transgender movement, particularly among teenage girls. This is alarming for many reasons, not the least of which is that some of these vulnerable girls are making life-altering decisions many will likely come to regret later in life. Students as young as 12 years old are allowed to leave school in some states to obtain hormone treatments for trans identity without parental consent or even knowledge. Teens (and adults) are openly encouraged (even pressured) to consider alternate gender options rather than the gender You gave them at birth, including “gender fluid” and “non binary.” People have lost their jobs over using the incorrect pronoun of choice for trans-identifying individuals. Young children in schools are taught to be open-minded and accepting of transgender people, middle and high schools have “trans awareness” weeks, and there is even a push in some areas of academia to rewrite female historical characters who filled more typically masculine roles as “trans.” Among other things, this is a theft of women’s achievement and sends a mixed message to girls about what they “ought to” be. Lord, this is clearly not Your design. You made two genders: male and female. Yes, there are those who genuinely struggle with gender dysphoria, but they make up a very small percentage of the population and historically, this has mainly affected boys. For those who do not have gender dysphoria, but are simply influenced by peer pressure, please allow them to get the help and support they need. For teenage girls who are following the latest trend or trying to fit in, grant them and their parents discernment and wisdom to seek other options besides jumping straight into hormone therapy. Help us and our officials to make smarter, stricter laws about gender transformation so minors are not allowed to make such decisions on their own. Help those of us who are concerned with the drastic rise in trans-identifying girls to channel that concern in constructive ways for positive change in our society, and grant peace of mind to all those who struggle with the identity You gave them. Bring everyone to saving faith in You, that we may all find our true worth and identity in You alone.

I pray especially for…

In Your name I pray. Amen.

Side note: If you’d like to read more about this issue, I recommend the book Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters by Abigail Shrier. It is well-written and an excellent exploration of the topic from the standpoint of the girls, the parents, the schools, the doctors, and more.
