I know your works; you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.Revelation 3:15-16
Lord of the Church,
While our brothers and sisters in many countries face persecution for their faith, the devil uses a much more subtle tactic to attack the church in the West: that of apathy and indifference. In the persecuted church, there is no such thing as a lukewarm Christian, but we have far too many in our own country and in other free countries. We are apathetic about church attendance, lazy about our witness, indifferent about prayer, and unconcerned about growing in our knowledge of Your Word. Like the Laodiceans to whom You spoke the words from Revelation 3, we say, “I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing.” We do not realize that we are “wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked” (Revelation 3:17). Lord, forgive us for such a lethargic attitude toward spiritual matters. Forgive us for our arrogance in thinking we don’t need You every moment of every day. Forgive us for our lack of urgency in spreading Your Word and speaking Your truth no matter the personal cost. Revitalize the Church in the West that we may be a beacon of light shining into the spiritual darkness of this world. May we reflect You, the Light of the World, who alone can give true life. Rid Christians everywhere of apathy and indifference toward their faith. Help us not to be lukewarm, but to be “hot,” burning with the desire to spread the Gospel, to spend time with You in prayer and in Your Word, and to be active in our churches and communities, spreading Your love to all we meet.
Please help me to be more passionate about my faith in the following areas…
In Your name I pray. Amen.
