Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:1-2

Lord God,

You are the One who creates faith in our hearts, and You are the One who can change our hearts and our attitudes to reflect You more perfectly. This process of sanctification is a life-long process, and sometimes we admit that we are impatient to see progress more quickly. We know we should be kinder, more loving, more patient, and have a better mindset, but we seem to fall back into the same habits and sins more often than not. We cry with the psalmist, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10). We want to be more like You, but we know we fall far short. Yet Your Word tells us that we are “being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” (2 Corinthians 3:18). Your Spirit is transforming us day by day! The word used for “transformed” here is the same that is used to describe Your Transfiguration, Lord, and the word from which we get our word “metamorphosis.” This is a complete transformation, O Lord, a complete change. As a caterpillar changes into a butterfly, hardly resembling the caterpillar it once was, so transform and transfigure us that our lives in You bear no resemblance to lives of unbelief. Grant us patience as You work in us to transfigure us, and grant that every day we grow to resemble You more and more.

I pray especially for the following habits, negative mindsets, or sins that I need You to help me change…

In Your name I pray. Amen.
