But deliver us from evil.
Matthew 6:13b
Lord God,
We know that You are good all the time and that You work everything for the good of those who love You (Romans 8:28). But at the same time, we are surrounded by so much evil in this world that without Your aid we would surely perish or despair. We pray that You put an end to the many evils we see around us, including abortion, prejudice, same-sex marriage, transgenderism, human trafficking, tolerance, persecution, addictions, sicknesses of body and mind, and all manner of sinful behaviors and attitudes that afflict humanity. Besides this, the devil sorely oppresses our consciences, tempting us either toward pride or despair. He tries to convince us that we don’t need Your grace because we are good enough on our own, or conversely, he tries to tell us that we are unworthy of Your grace because we are so bad. Deliver us from his schemes, Lord. Deliver us from becoming complacent to or accepting of the evils in the world around us, and deliver us from physical or mental ailments that would draw us away from You. Keep us strong in the faith until our last hour comes, that You may finally deliver us out of this world and into eternity with You.
Please deliver me specifically from the following evils…
In Your name I pray. Amen.
